Hand Skills and Headspace: The Science of Surgical Coaching
Includes a Live Web Event on 08/13/2026 at 6:00 PM (EDT)
As surgeons, we have all experienced a variety of mentorship and coaching styles throughout our training. What defines a great surgical coach, and how is this different from a professional mentor? How can we improve our own coaching of students, interns and residents, so that the next generation of surgeons possesses both the technical skillset and the mindset required to achieve surgical excellence? Drawing from principles of adult educational psychology, coaching in human surgery and mindset tools from high performers in other industries, the webinar will provide practical strategies to improve clinical coaching, foster a growth mindset in adult learners and create an environment of psychological safety. Whether you are involved in coaching veterinary students, nurses, house officers or practicing veterinarians, we hope that you will find meaningful guidance that benefits your own surgical growth as much as your learners’.
