Equine Fracture Complications and Trauma

Equine Fracture Complications and Trauma

2026 ACVS Surgery Summit Seminar

Recorded for On-Demand

This seminar focuses on the identification, understanding, and management of fracture complications in large animal trauma, with emphasis on equine patients. The seminar opens with a 30-minute expert lecture by Dr. Anton Fürst reviewing common surgical complications associated with fracture fixation. The next lecture is an interactive, case-based 1-hour panel discussion centered on mechanical failures.

Panelists present selected clinical cases to stimulate discussion on possible causes, intraoperative decision-making, and what might have been done differently. When appropriate, cases are supported by biomechanical interpretation and pre-modeled 3D analyses to help link clinical observations with underlying mechanical principles. The aim of this seminar is to provide practical insights to improve recognition, prevention, and management of complications in large animal fracture repair.
