Lindsey Helms Boone, DVM, PhD, DACVS (Large Animal)

Assistant Professor of Equine Surgery

Auburn University

Dr. Boone received her DVM from the University of Georgia in 2008, completed an internship in large animal medicine and surgery at Texas A&M University in 2009, and then completed a large animal surgery residency at the University of Georgia in 2012. Dr. Boone served as a large animal clinical instructor in equine surgery at the University of Georgia from 2012–2013 while completing her PhD in physiology and pharmacology from the University of Georgia in 2013. From 2013–2016, she gained valuable experience as an associate surgeon in an equine sports medicine and surgery referral practice in Tryon, NC. She became board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2015. In 2016, she joined the faculty at Auburn University as an assistant professor of equine surgery.

Lauren Schnabel, DVM, PhD, DACVS, DACVSMR (Moderator)

Associate Professor Equine Orthopedic Surgery

NC State University

Dr. Schnabel is an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at NC State University and has over 20 years of equine clinical experience and over 15 years of both equine and human research experience in the fields of orthopedic surgery and sports medicine. Her main interests are in the prevention and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and advancing equine rehabilitation. She has published over 60 peer-reviewed publications, given invited presentations nationally and internationally for both her clinical and research expertise, and has received both external and internal funding for her research work. In 2019, Dr. Schnabel was appointed an Associate Director of the Comparative Medicine Institute at NC State University and was also named as an NC State University Faculty Scholar for her success in clinical work, research, teaching, mentorship, and community outreach efforts. In 2020, she was awarded the Zoetis Award for Veterinary Research Excellence. Dr. Schnabel has served on both the Morris Animal Foundation Large Animal Scientific Advisory Board and the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation, Inc. Research Advisory Committee. She is also an Associate Editor for the journal Frontiers in Veterinary Medicine (Regenerative Medicine Section) and is on the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Orthopedic Research.
