Lindsey Helms Boone, DVM, PhD, DACVS (Large Animal)

Assistant Professor of Equine Surgery

Auburn University

Dr. Boone received her DVM from the University of Georgia in 2008, completed an internship in large animal medicine and surgery at Texas A&M University in 2009, and then completed a large animal surgery residency at the University of Georgia in 2012. Dr. Boone served as a large animal clinical instructor in equine surgery at the University of Georgia from 2012–2013 while completing her PhD in physiology and pharmacology from the University of Georgia in 2013. From 2013–2016, she gained valuable experience as an associate surgeon in an equine sports medicine and surgery referral practice in Tryon, NC. She became board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2015. In 2016, she joined the faculty at Auburn University as an assistant professor of equine surgery.

Carrie Jacobs, DVM, DACVS (Large Animal)

Assistant Clinical Professor, Equine Orthopedic Surgery

North Carolina State University

Carrie Jacobs obtained her veterinary degree from Michigan State University in 2012. Following graduation, she completed a Large Animal Rotating Internship at the University of Pennsylvania, New Bolton Center in 2013. She then stayed at New Bolton Center to complete a three-year residency and a one-year fellowship in Large Animal Surgery. In September 2017, Dr. Jacobs returned to Michigan State University as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Large Animal Surgery. After 2 years at MSU, Dr. Jacobs had the opportunity to join the surgery group at NC State as a Clinical Assistant Professor with emphasis in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine. She is also currently completing an alternate track residency in sports medicine and rehabilitation.

Annette McCoy, DVM, MS, PhD, DACVS (Large Animal)

Associate Professor

University of Illinois

Dr. McCoy is an associate professor of equine surgery at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. She has a clinical and research interest in musculoskeletal disease in the horse, particularly developmental orthopedic conditions. Her other research interests include the identification of genetic risk factors underlying gait and performance in the horse.

Megan McCracken, DVM, MS, DACVS (Large Animal) (Moderator)

Assistant Teaching Professor Equine Surgery

University of Missouri

Dr. McCracken graduated from the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. She completed her equine surgery residency and master of science degree at the University of Missouri in 2012 and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2013.

She previously worked as an associate surgeon at Rainland Farm Equine Clinic, a sport horse-focused private practice outside Seattle, and as a clinical instructor of large animal emergency and critical care and equine surgery at the University of Tennessee. She is currently an assistant teaching professor of equine surgery at the University of Missouri.

Pierre-Yves Mulon, DVM, PhD, DACVS (Large Animal)

Assistant professor in Farm Animal Medicine and Surgery

University of Tennessee

Dr. Mulon is an assistant professor in farm animal medicine and surgery in the College of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Tennessee. Dr. Mulon obtained his veterinary degree from the Ecole Nationale Veterinaire d'Alfort in France and completed his internship and residency program at the Universite de Montreal in Canada. He held a clinical instructor position at the University of Montreal and an assistant faculty position at Texas A&M after his residency program. Dr. Mulon also worked in private practice for six years, Since 2016, Dr. Mulon joined the University of Tennessee. His areas of interest are farm animal surgeries, both soft tissue and orthopedics.

Bradley Nelson, DVM, PhD, DACVS (Large Animal)

Assistant Professor, Equine Surgery

Colorado State University

Dr. Brad Nelson, DVM, PhD, DACVS is currently an assistant professor of Equine surgery at Colorado State University. Dr. Nelson graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a D.V.M. in 2009, and then completed an equine internship in surgery and medicine at Washington State University, followed by a residency in equine surgery and lameness at CSU. He also received a master’s degree in clinical sciences as part of the residency program. Following residency, Dr. Nelson completed a PhD focused on articular cartilage imaging using a novel contrast agent with computed tomographic imaging in an equine model. Dr. Nelson’s research interests are in the detection of articular cartilage injury and osteoarthritis using advanced diagnostic imaging modalities and preclinical surgical models of orthopedic disease. He became an assistant professor of Equine Surgery in 2019 and is a principal investigator in the Orthopaedic Reserch Center and Preclinical Surgical Reserach Laboratory.

Travis Tull, DVM, DACVS (Large Animal)

Associate Surgeon

Ocala Equine Hospital

Dr. Tull is a graduate of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. He completed an internship and surgical residency at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital. Following his time in Lexington, KY, he was a surgeon at Brown Equine Hospital in Pennsylvania before accepting the position as a surgeon and hospital clinician at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Saratoga, NY, from 2013 to 2017. He joined Ocala Equine Hospital in 2017, and his professional interests are orthopedics, soft tissue surgery, and lameness in performance horses.

Cole Sandow, DVM, MS, DACVS (Large Animal)

Hagyard Equine Medical Institute

Dr. Sandow graduated from Louisiana State University (LSU), School of Veterinary Medicine. Following graduation, he completed a surgery internship at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute before working with a racetrack practice based in New Orleans. Dr. Sandow then returned to Hagyard to complete an internal medicine fellowship prior to beginning an equine surgery residency at LSU. During his residency at LSU, he also earned a master’s degree completing research on laminitis, condylar fracture repair, and intra-articular therapy. He received an outstanding surgical resident award from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and a resident research award from the Veterinary Orthopedic Society. Dr. Sandow has also delivered several presentations at state and national veterinary meetings. He is board-certified in large animal surgery with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Ceri Elinor Sherlock, BVetMed, MRCVS, DACVS (Large Animal)

Dr. Sherlock graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2004 before joining Bell Equine as an intern predominantly in the hospital prior to embarking on a specialised surgical residency and Master’s program in Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Georgia.

She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2010. Upon completion of both programs, Dr. Sherlock remained at the University of Georgia as a clinical instructor in large animal surgery. Dr. Sherlock has since completed a residency in diagnostic imaging in conjunction with the Royal Veterinary College and is now a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging.

Dr. Sherlock is currently the only RCVS recognised specialist in both equine surgery and large animal imaging. She enjoys all types of surgery and plays an active role in the emergency service.
