RACE Program #20-864712 is approved for 2 hours of continuing education credits in jurisdictions which recognize the American Association of Veterinary State Boards’ (AAVSB) Registry of Approved Continuing Education (RACE). However, participants should be aware that some boards have limitations on the number of hours accepted in certain categories and/or restrictions on certain methods of delivery of continuing education.

Dr. Gaughan received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Georgia, and he completed his equine surgery residency at the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine, Cornell University. He worked in equine veterinary medicine in both private practice and the classroom before joining the Merck Animal Health team as an equine professional services veterinarian in 2013.
Dr. Gaughan was in private equine and mixed practice for 5 years in Vermont and Maryland before entering his surgical training and then served in equine faculty positions at the veterinary schools at Kansas State, Auburn and Virginia Tech. He was a clinical equine surgeon at Littleton Equine Medical Center in Colorado.
Kathleen Ham, DVM, MS, DACVS (Small Animal) (Moderator)

Dr. Ham is an associate professor of small animal surgery at the University of Florida. She received her undergraduate and veterinary degrees at Michigan State University and a master of science degree from the University of Illinois. Dr. Ham completed an internship and surgery residency while at the University of Illinois and became a Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2009. She worked at a specialty practice in Michigan for three years, at The Ohio State University for almost eight years, and Michigan State for two years. Dr. Ham's expertise lies in soft tissue and oncologic surgery. She has published on her professional interests, which include primary hyperparathyroidism, minimally invasive surgery, wounds, brachycephalic airway disease, and surgical oncology. She is active in clinical trials and collaborative research projects. Dr. Ham has interests in resident education, student teaching, and continuing education.
